Italy Missions Update April 2012

Ciao a tutti!  As always, we hope this email finds you well.
It has been a while since we posted our last update letter and there is much to report.  I’ll do my best to keep it concise.
Pastor Mark cooking Dinner
Spring in Treviso has seemingly come and gone.  Flowering trees and plants have all but passed their prime and in fact, evidence of the farmers diligent work from the fall is starting to show.  While looking around, you can’t help but think of the new life that a believer has in Christ; the risen Christ as recently celebrated.
Resurrection Sunday was a blessing for us.  We not only enjoyed the great teaching at church (Luke 23:33-24:12, but we also enjoyed an afternoon of fellowship and the breaking of bread with 14 of our dear friends and family in Christ.  Food and laughter in abundance, challenging conversations regarding theology among other subjects were a part of the day!  A blessed time indeed.

The English Club
The English Club
Three classes completed and two more to go.  April 20th will conclude the third season of the English Club at the new location.  This seasons class is smaller than those in the past, likely due to the change from Wednesday to Friday evenings.  Those attending are those who are truly interested in learning English and are getting a more focused experience than in past sessions.  We were blessed recently to have Emanuela, one of our students from last season, join us for church a few weeks back.  Pray for Dorota who also visited us at church last season and is a returning student.  She has recently voiced an interest in coming to church again.

Teaching Opportunities
In addition to teaching Sunday school, developing the English Club curriculum and teaching English at a nearby Nursery School, Lori will be teaching the women’s study at CC Treviso in April. Lori has been stretched in many ways this year and we are grateful for the Lord’s grace to help her through it all.  Please pray for guidance as she prepares and delivers the women’s study this Saturday, April 14th and for the ladies to be blessed as they join in the study.
Saul attempts to kill David (again)
Midweek Study
We’ve recently finished the book of 1 Samuel; a book filled with many practical examples for the Christian as we study the lives of Samuel, Saul, Jonathan and David.  We’ll be starting a new, interactive study this month called Nuova Creazione (New Creation) inviting those in attendance to be more deeply involved in searching the scriptures.  For some it will be a good review of the foundations of our faith, for others, it will be an opportunity to search the scriptures for the first time!  Pray for Mark, Nino and Bob as they share in leading the lessons each week.

New Friends
We continue to pray for the Lord's help in tending to those whom He has brought to CC Treviso.  We also pray for Him to bring new faces to the fellowship as we reach out to the community.  A few weeks ago, a young mom and daughter were seeking a new church and saw our sign along the road.  They decided to stop to see what we were about and have been joining us ever since. We’re happy to have Alessandra and her daughter Nicole join us each Sunday. We were also blessed in recent weeks with a visit to church by a young muslim man called Mido who works at a Kebab shop in Treviso.  Pastor Mark and Renata has been frequenting this shop since they moved to Treviso.  We are grateful for Mido's acceptance of Mark's invitation to visit the church and we pray that he will come again as God’s word works in his heart.

Trip to the States
Lori and I will be visiting the States for a longer than usual period.  One of the blessings that we’ve experienced while serving in Italy is the ability see the Lord's hand in renting our home.  It has also proved to be one of the challenges living abroad.  We’ve met some wonderful families through this process and our trust in the Lord has increased each year with the need to find new tenants.  This February presented us with a new challenge as our tenant chose to terminate the contract early.  Clearly the Lord has chosen to use this situation as a refining experience for us and we ask for prayer as we work through this situation both practically and spiritually.  As a result, we feel the Lord has led us to rent our house weekly through the summer and monthly through fall, winter and spring.  We’re asking for prayer for all the work we need to do from the time we arrive in May till the arrival of our 1st tenant at the end of June, for safe keeping on the rental guests and neighborhood and that we might be good witnesses through it all.
We hope you are encouraged with what the Lord is doing at CC Treviso.  There is more to report, but we’ll leave that for another update.  Thanks you again for your ongoing encouragement, prayers and support.  May the Lord bless you and we look forward to seeing many of you a few weeks from now.
